My name is Matías Valdes Marsans.
I am the child of two generations of artists in Barcelona. I started working in galleries at a very young age and quickly came in contact with the mechanics of cultural production. I studied humanities (UPF) and art history (UNIROMA1). I have always fluctuated between art history, philosophy, art theory and literature. During my studies, contact with original documents awakened my interest in archives. Understanding the importance of these repositories for my studies led me to change my career direction to archival science and cultural administration.
That is why I am currently pursuing an online master’s degree in Archiving and Digital Continuity at Universidad Carlos III in Madrid.
I’ve always liked working with computers, I’ve learnt everything myself. When I was young I did an internship in a design studio and quickly learned how to use Photoshop, Indesign and Adobe in general. During my university studies, I became a master of MS Office and Mendeley. Finally, my interest in archiving led me to learn programming. In my spare time I’m currently taking a course in web development, both front-end (HTML, CSS and Javascript) and back-end. The idea is to be able to create databases and know how to manage them from their appearance to their organisation and internal structure.
