Matías Valdés Marsans

I started working in galleries very early on and quickly came into contact with the mechanics of cultural production. I studied Humanities (UPF) and Art History (UNIROMA1). I have always shifted between art history, philosophy, art theory and literature. During my studies, contact with original documents awakened my interest in archives. Realising the importance of these repositories for my studies led me to reorient myself towards archival science, IT and cultural administration. That is why I am currently pursuing an online master’s degree in Archiving and Digital Continuity at Universidad Carlos III in Madrid.

I wrote my Master’s thesis in the Department of Art Criticism. In my work, I studied the concept of image of the philosopher María Zambrano in relation to the work of some Spanish painters (Ramón Gaya, Luis Marsans and Xavier Valls). I graduated with honours.

They were very interdisciplinary studies. My final degree project was a proposal for an annotated edition of the then unpublished correspondence between María Zambrano and Ramón Gaya. I have always been very interested in painting and its relationship with art theory.
